Featured Ballpark: Sherwood Yards

A new feature that I would like to continue on the blog, I want to take a tour around the US, and hopefully worldwide, and see some of the great ballparks of wiffleball. The first ball park I am going to take a look at is Sherwood Yards, home of Diablo Wiffleball in Southeast Missouri. The thing that sticks out to me is how manicured this ballpark is....seriously it is a thing of beauty. One of the signature features of the park is the ivy in left field, with the specialized Diablo Scoreboard sitting above it. 20 Foot Foul poles, custom backstop, and bleachers sitting behind home plate make me feel all tingly inside. Each year the Diablos host their version of the Wiffle Ball World Series (WBWS) which is an on going tournament entering its 13th year this October. Check out Diablos Wiffleball Blog HERE, and their website HERE. Here are some pictures taken from their website for your viewing pleasure.

Power Rankings 7/15/2009

Since blogging is fresh in my mind, there are going to be numerous updates in the next couple of days to get this website started off. Weekly (hopefully) there will be updated power rankings of the leagues. Here are the power rankings for 7/15/2009:

1. Eastside Expos 18-0 (CCWA)
The only undefeated team in all of the wiffle ball leagues currently followed by Wiffle Blog, is coming off 17-0, and 8-0 routs of the Tigers.

2. Reds 19-5 (HRL)
Sweeping the Dodgers on Monday, the Reds show that they now can pitch any of four people. Dr. Seuss (1.30 ERA), Spoon (2.39 ERA), Palpatine (2.47 ERA), and Richard (throwing a no-hitter on Monday)

3. Belly Itchers 18-2 (KWL)
Back-to-Back Champions look well on their way to another K-Zoo Wiffle League Championship. Adam Bontrager is hitting a monstrous .443, 21 HR, 41 RBI, and AJ Tate is 5-2, 0.38 ERA, 14.0 K/6.

4. Red Sox 17-6 (HRL)
The defending Hopkins Champs are back with the top two batting averages in the HRL with both Tugboat, and The Man at .456. Those two combined have 55 HR, and 105 RBI (more than most teams in the HRL).

5. Rose Valley Red Sox 12-2 (CCWA)
The Red Sox have won their last 9 games (however it appears they are currently losing in a suspendid game).

6. Braves 18-6 (HRL)
The Braves are 3-3 in Intercity Games against the Reds, Indians, and The X.

7. Indians 11-3 (HFWB)
The Indians are winners of 9 straight including a win against the Rays 3-0.

8. Monday Night 40s 12-6 (KWL)
Recently swept by The Lemons, The 40s are 2-2 against The Belly Itchers this year.

9. Phillies (HRL)
Pitching wins championships and The Phillies have the 2nd and 3rd best ERA in the HRL with The Kid (0.57 ERA), and Shirls (0.87 ERA).

10. Donkeys (WATL)
Chris Riggs is leading the league in HR (11), and RBI (24).

First Post

National Wiffleball League Association will be taking a digger in October so hopefully here is an alternative to the website. Starting off, I will be following these leagues (more will be added later)...

HRL: Twin Cities

Columbia Cowlitz Wiffleball Association

Kalamazoo Wiffle League

Wiffle Atlanta

Hess Field Wiffle Ball League

I personally consider these the best wiffle leagues in the nation. Updates should be coming frequently with results, commentary, and everything wiffleball.

The first thing I would like to do in this blog is to promote Wifflin' for Wishes which is being held in Hopkins, MN (west side of the Twin Cities). The tournament is great fun, always has a large turn out, and it is for a good cause. Here is some information for the tournament taken from the tournament website:

WHERE: Hopkins Central Park, 101 17th Ave S, Hopkins, MN | View Map

WHEN: Saturday, August 15th, 2009, 10:00 am

TEAM ENTRY FEE: $100 (3 to 5 players)

ENTRY DEADLINE: August 10th, 2009 (T-shirts must be ordered in advance, so priority will be given to entries received on or before July 12th)

WHAT YOU GET: Participants are guaranteed to play at least 4 games during the day’s competition, and will receive a tournament t-shirt (first teams to register, first served in the case of limited supply/late entry). All necessary game equipment will be supplied. There will be food & beverage concessions available for purchase, raffles, and and live entertainment! Individual and team prizes will also be awarded.

The tournament has seen steady growth since it’s inception in 2005 and so far has raised nearly $10,000 to help grant the wishes of Minnesota children with life-threatening medical conditions. It’s a fantastic event for a fantastic cause, so it doesn’t matter how skilled or unskilled you are, we need YOU to come play a kids’ game for a fun-filled day to make this event a success!
